Busy Morning...

Was the day before Christmas and all through the house the fox was a stirring while wearing a blouse.

Ok, so I'm not wearing a blouse, but I have been stirring. Worked from five in the morning until ten, then cleaned house a little. I've been prepping foodstuffs for tomorrow. So far the potatoes, squash, corn, and carrots have been prepped for cooking. The potatoes are being served thinly sliced and layered with garlic, olive oil, and spices. We shall bake the squash with a dash of salt and pepper and serve as cut; cubed that is! Corn is every so easy when served on the cob, though the ears have been halved as there is a lot of food. The carrots will be boiled and then glazed with brown sugar and butter, with a dash of salt. Tomorrow the stovetop and oven will have it's work cut out. for joining the above will be a roasted goose, green beans, cranberry sauce, and freshly baked rolls. And if that were not enough we have both apple pie and frosted sugar cookies for dessert. Pictures to follow after tomorrow.

That in a nutshell is what we're serving our friends, six in total, at tomorrows holiday feast. What, my friends, are you doing to celebrate the season and what do tell do you plan on cooking or eating?

Crackin' My Nuts
  sabotlours

08:21am 24/12/2009
Here I am, at the office on Christmas Eve. That can mean only one thing; "The Nutcracker" is cranking out of my computer speakers. This makes about 18 years straight that I have upheld this tradition. I bought the cd's at Costco in Yakima, WA in either '91 or '92. On the last day before Xmas vacation, I always play the cd's. This year they were ripped to .mp3 so I don't have to worry about the wear on the discs. The office is quiet otherwise. My co-worker and I will head over to Carl's Jr for a tasty burger at lunchtime and then we're off for the rest of the day. Tonight I will don my gay apparel, i.e. a fursuit, and entertain all of the folks who come to Old Town to take in the holiday lights. Hopefully there will be lots of pics tomorrow!

I should also mention that we have been having a great few days as of late. [info]zippiner and [info]skitzycat invited us over for dinner on Tue. Then last night we invited them over for cake to celebrate [info]gavyn_lumier's b-day. He will be flying out of ABQ (hopefully) today to head home for the holidays. He, Kitty, myself, and [info]scritchwuff had a nice dinner at a Japanese restaurant last night to celebrate his b-day as well as the holidays. For what is supposed to be one of the better Japanese restaurants in ABQ, we were less than impressed. The company was very enjoyable, though. It's having friends like this that make me very thankful for all that I have. That also goes for the majority of you out there. Some we have met FTF, others not. To those on the "not" list, I hope that can be changed in the future. Either way, I luvs ya all. I hope you have a great Christmas and get everything you want. Just don't post it to LJ on the 26th! *LOL*

Quarter GPA: 3.09
Cumulative GPA: 3.52

Sorry it took me so long to post these. I'm mostly happy with these grades. I did better than I was expecting in accounting and physics. I honestly thought I was looking at a B or B+ in those classes. But, when the grades were posted, I was pleasantly surprised.

Calculus, as everyone can see, kicked my ass. It was the most difficult course I have ever taken. I got a 44% on my final exam. That was also the class average. But, with a C-, I can and will take calculus 4 next quarter.

As you can see, I am trying to lose my sanity next quarter. This is the most difficult course load I've faced with my only 100-level class being friggin' physics and a 500-level stat course. So, if I have gray hair at FWA, you know why :D

Oscar Would Be Proud
  sabotlours

11:40am 23/12/2009
I was looking at the list of films that were nominated for Oscars last year, and I realized that I have now seen pretty much EVERY full-length movie nominated in EVERY category. I am only 3 films shy in the "Best Foreign Film" Category, but they are now in the good ol' Netflix queue. I watched the last of the "Best Documentary" category a couple of days ago with "Trouble the Water," about Hurricane Katrina.

How many have YOU seen?

09:50am 23/12/2009
The holidays are starting to do me in, which never comes as a surprise to me, but this year I just seem more worn and tired than usual. I will be very glad when the holidays wind down and there's not the general rush of insanity there seems to be. I've never really been a big fan of the holidays, they're oversold and too busy and there's too much arguing about 'em, and I'd love to curl up and sleep through them one year. One top of that, I'm still trying to get used to the fact that the whole family doesn't get together at Nanny's anymore. This is the third Christmas since she died, and.. it sure doesn't help my holiday spirit. It's probably the biggest reason the holidays suck.

Anyway. Resolutions. I don't know why I bother with these, I never keep them, but then, these are a little more realistic than my usual.
- Exercise, three-five days a week. I haven't, and I can feel it.
- Write, at least five days a week, even if all I write is a 500 word blurb about nothing.
- Draw, at least five days a week, even if all it is is a sketch I'll never finish.
- Attempt to take overall better care of myself, physically and mentally.
- Once a week, clean house. Just a quick once over, so I don't have to spend three days scrubbing.

By the way, Gran Torino has got to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The acting is horrible, the dialogue is horrible, the whole thing is horrible. Clint Eastwood is too old to be trying to make movies. Guh.

So, I was going to say a handful of other things, and of course, I can't remember any of them. So, should I happen to remember any of them, expect more posts.

Either [info]darkwolph paid off the right people, or this is punishment for growing up in the South.

But every time Wolphy leaves it immediately snows. This, in itself, isn't really an issue. But the fact that he gets to skip out on all the awesomefuntime snow shoveling is. Seriously it's clockwork.

Next time I'm burying Boris in the snow while he's gone, handing him a shovel when he returns and wishing him luck :)

Hardware
  sabotlours

08:36am 22/12/2009
19 years ago I went to the theater to see a sci-fi flick titled "Hardware". I remember what intrigued me the most was that it was given the newly-created "NC-17" rating. Ooooo! It must have lots of great violence and/or sex! Overall it was of the "killer robot" genre made famous several years earlier by another slightly cheesy movie titled "The Terminator" which, of course, became a "classic."

I like to rate movies based on their "memorability." If you have to ask yourself, "Didn't I see that movie?" it was probably a bad movie. By "bad" I mean that it was typical Hollywood drivel where plots and characters are completely interchangeable. The Bourne series comes to mind. I have seen all 3 movies, but I couldn't tell you a single plot point from any of them. What I love are the small movies that burrow into your brain and sit there for years and years. "Hardware" was one of them. It wasn't all that great, but there were certain things that I remembered. While cruising around the Netflix list I saw it and put it in the queue. Last night it reached the top.

Kitty had never heard of it, so she watched it with me. I told her that the few things I remembered were the radio DJ named Angry Bob that was in the background was voiced by rocker Iggy Pop, there was a creepy, disgusting fanboy-like character who gets ripped apart by the robot, and there was a killer closing song. That was about it. I told Kitty that either I'll hate the movie even more than before or that I'll gain new respect for it, seeing it with different eyes than I had 19 years ago. I'm happy to say that it was the latter. Perhaps it was because I was not expecting great sci-fi or something that it was not that I was able to better enjoy it this time around. It did take me back to 1990, so there was the nostalgia factor. I was also able to get the title to the killer track at the end of the film. It was "Order of Death" by PIL. I still dug it! I also picked up a track by Ministry in the movie that I had missed the 1st time around. So if you're looking for something in the sci-fi/horror genre, give it a rent one of these days.

Bark!

After work I took my usual walk in the desert, as I was coming out I saw a car where a car should not be.

Upon closer inspection (peeking through the windows for bodies) I noticed the stereo system and navigation system had been removed and there was an empty bottle of Parrot Bay rum on the driver's side front seat. The picture is of the best side of the car, the rear bumper is about 100 yards behind the car in the desert, the entire driver's side is dented and the front end has sustained some impact damage.

I called the local PD and was transferred to the constable's office where I provided information about the vehicle and location where it sat. Several hours later they dispatched a tow truck crew to haul the car to the impound lot.

Apparently, from what I gathered, the owner was at a club and his car was stolen from the parking lot, stripped of the good stuff, and then taken for a joy ride where parts came off and the car was run into a ditch...

So that was my day - what did you do?

mood: mischievous

So Friday night, after a very festive (and booze filled) office holiday party, it appears I got a little feisty on IRC on the train ride home. I said some not very nice things about a certain individual.

Though the follow through was less than kosher, the point holds true: if you are constantly going to complain about something, be aware that eventually someone is going to call you on it. If I put down something I reserve the right for ANY of my friends to provide counter arguments. I might not agree with the message, but if they are a friend I will respect their input. I admit I was pretty harsh (thanks to countless ciders), but especially when it comes to cons I think it's petty and unproductive for people (especially staff - current or not) to talk smack about other cons. As I have said in the past, we are ALL in the business of trying our best to make furs happy. And nothing rubs me the wrong way more than hearing one person constantly belittle the work of others. If it's an one time thing, or if they are offering constructive criticism, that is totally acceptable. But broken record bitching is not.

If you don't like an organization, don't go. It's as simple as that. But don't expect people to respect you when all you have to offer are negative opinions. No one likes a downer.

So I am sorry for being a total asshole online. I admit that was selfish and childish, and booze got the best of my judgment. But I am not sorry for calling someone out on their negativity. Kill people with kindness :)

No I will not go into further details you drama whores :)

[info]darkwolph  is back!!!! (for a day). Chaos (of course) went into orbit when his other daddy returned. I was pretty damn ecstatic as well :)

We tried out a new upscale Mexican joint last night which turned out to be far better than we expected. IMAX 3D Avatar tonight. Then he's off to Michigan on Tuesday and I fly out to South Carolina on Thursday.

Won't see his mangy ass until NYE :/

Oh well. At least I can make love to my new TV. TV smells far better :)
